University Liggett storms past Bishop Foley in regional semifinal

Knights advance to play Brown City

March 4, 2014

MADISON HEIGHTS — University Liggett raced out to a 19-4 lead and never looked back on its way to defeating Madison Heights Bishop Foley 61-36 in a Class C regional semifinal played at Foley on Tuesday night.

Lola Ristovski and Kendall McConico each scored 14 points for Liggett, while junior Jessica Rotzoll led all scorers with 15 points for the Knights.

"Our first couple buckets, if Jessica (Rotzoll) is hot coming out of transition, that's what we need, and that's how we gel together. We feed off of the point guard and off of Rotzoll's outside shooting," Liggett coach Omar Ahart said.

The point guard Ahart referred to is freshman Nia Ahart, who scored 13 points and dished out five assists.

Liggett took a 37-18 lead into halftime, and the Knights used a 12-1 run to start the second half to put the game away.

Junior forward Renee Fischer scored 10 points to lead Foley, which concluded its season with a 15-9 record to go along with a Catholic League C-D tournament championship.

Liggett (18-3) advances to take on Brown City in a regional final game March 6 at Foley.
