The rivals traditionally meet in the final game of the season but will meet in Week 1 for the first time since 2001. Since that time, the Maples lead the series 8-5.

Last year’s 28-22 victory by Seaholm gave it the OAA Blue title. This matchup is just for bragging rights, as Seaholm has been moved to the OAA White. Groves is looking to snap a two-game losing streak to its rival. Each loss was by seven points or less.

Romeo Bulldogs

Romeo remained undefeated by defeating Macomb Dakota 26-14 in a Macomb Area Conference crossover that paired two of the top-ranked teams in Michigan. Romeo’s defense came into the game having surrendered just 13 points all season, and helped seal the win with a safety and interception return for touchdown by Brad Tanner in the fourth quarter. Romeo earned its first win against Dakota since 2010.
