ST. CLAIR SHORES — It’s “win or go home” for teams in the St. Clair Shores Sentinel coverage area, as the postseason is now underway in every sport except boys basketball and swimming, which begin their playoffs March 3 and March 4, respectively, after press time.
The 2014 Michigan High School Athletic Association playoffs are in full swing in hockey, girls basketball, cheerleading, boys and girls bowling and wrestling.
Here’s a look at how the local teams had performed at press time.
Lake Shore cheer team falls in D-2 regional
The St. Clair Shores Lake Shore cheer team saw its season come to a close with an 11th-place finish at a 2014 MHSAA Division 2 regional Feb. 22 at Ortonville-Brandon.
The Shorians, which finished fourth at a district meet to advance, tallied 665.70 points at the regional, won by Gibraltar Carlson.
Lakeview boys bowling team advances to state finals
The St. Clair Shores Lakeview bowling team advanced to the D-1 state finals with a third-place finish at a regional Feb. 21 in Woodhaven. The Huskies tallied 3,749 points.
Lakeview also had three bowlers qualify for the individual state finals.
Senior Mitchell Cunha scored 1,191 points to finish third at a boys regional Feb. 22 in Woodhaven; sophomore Amber Suwalski scored 1,074 points to finish fourth at the same individual regional; and senior Christina Thomas notched 1,036 points to finish ninth.
Advancing to the D-2 state final was Lake Shore sophomore Gabe Genord, who finished sixth at a regional to advance.
The South Lake boys and girls bowling teams finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in their D-2 regional, which took place Feb. 21 in Dearborn Heights.

Shores Unified hockey falls in regional semifinal
The St. Clair Shores Unified hockey team fell 8-0 to the University of Detroit Jesuit in a 2014 MHSAA D-1 regional semifinal Feb. 27 at the City Sports Arena in Detroit.
The Lakers end the season at 12-14. The 12 wins are triple the number St. Clair Shores notched last season.
Lakeview’s Doran wrestles at state finals
St. Clair Shores Lakeview senior 171-pounder Sam Doran advanced to the state finals, which took place after press time.
Doran, who qualified by placing fourth at a Feb. 15 regional, took a 37-6 mark into the inals.
The top eight wrestlers in each weight class at the state finals earn All-State honors.
Boys basketball playoffs tip off
Each of the local teams began the district round of the state tournament after press time.
Lake Shore opened with a Class A district quarterfinal against Sterling Heights High. The winner advances to take on Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse in a Class A semi at 6 p.m. March 5 at Roseville High.
Lakeview, which was in the same draw as Lake Shore, opened with matchups agiainst Clinton Township Chippewa Valley. The survivor gets Roseville High in a semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. March 5 at Roseville.
South Lake, a Class B squad, opened with a district quarterfinal tussle with Clinton Township Clintondale. The winner advances to take on Center Line at 6 p.m. March 5 at Center Line.

Romeo remained undefeated by defeating Macomb Dakota 26-14 in a Macomb Area Conference crossover that paired two of the top-ranked teams in Michigan. Romeo’s defense came into the game having surrendered just 13 points all season, and helped seal the win with a safety and interception return for touchdown by Brad Tanner in the fourth quarter. Romeo earned its first win against Dakota since 2010.
