WARREN — Warren Mott and Warren Cousino will host a tennis tournament that will include eight local boys prep teams looking to raise funds for the city of Warren War Memorial.

The first annual Tennis For Troops tournament is slated for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 14 at Halmich Park, located at 3001 13 Mile Road in Warren. Teams slated to participate include Warren Woods Tower, Madison Heights Lamphere, Fraser High, Center Line High, St. Clair Shores Lakeview, Macomb L’Anse Creuse North, Mott and Cousino.

Additional match sites include Lamphere and Mott. Sept. 15 will serve as the rain date.

Each team has been given a branch of service to raise funds for. The team that raises the most money to donate will win a free team dinner at Vivio’s in Warren.

The event will feature an “honor table,” where patrons of the tournament can bring a photo of a service member they would like to see recognized. Dog tags will be sold for $5, with the funds going toward the War Memorial.

Country Day, which had outscored its opponents 78-7 in the district round, advanced to the state semifinals for the second year in a row. The Yellowjackets (11-1) face Flint Powers Catholic (10-2) at 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at West Bloomfield High.
