Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse heavyweight Donald Strong, pictured during a Feb. 5 match against Sterling Heights Stevenson, is one of seven Lancers wrestlers to qualify for the 2014 MHSAA individual regionals.

A number of wrestlers from Harrison Township L’Anse Creuse and Macomb Lutheran North battled their way through individual district matches that took place Feb. 8.

Lancers and Mustangs advanced to the regional round, which took place after press time. If they’re successful at regionals, the grapplers move on to the 2014 Michigan High School Athletic Association state finals, set for Feb. 27-March 1 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Romeo Bulldogs

Romeo remained undefeated by defeating Macomb Dakota 26-14 in a Macomb Area Conference crossover that paired two of the top-ranked teams in Michigan. Romeo’s defense came into the game having surrendered just 13 points all season, and helped seal the win with a safety and interception return for touchdown by Brad Tanner in the fourth quarter. Romeo earned its first win against Dakota since 2010.
