Macomb County prep basketball standouts to play in fourth annual All-Star games

Girls, boys games set for June 12 at Macomb Community College

Girls and boys basketball players from various Macomb County High schools will play in all-star games taking place June 12 at Macomb Community College. Pictured are boys players during the 2012 game.

WARREN — The Macomb Community College South Campus Sports and Expo Center will for the fourth straight year be the site of two All-Star basketball games featuring some of the best players in Macomb County.

The girls game tips at 6 p.m., with the boys slated to get under way at 7:30 p.m.

The exhibitions were established by MCC women's basketball coach Jay Ritchie. The 2012 games featured 44 of the best prep basketball players in Macomb County, including several who went on to play at various colleges and universities.

The contests feature graduating seniors. Teams are labeled as “home” and “away” in both contests.

The MCC Sports and Expo Center is located at 14500 E. 12 Mile Road in Warren.

Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for seniors and patrons under 14 years old.

Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day

Thanks to two early scores, some lock-down defense, and a touchdown with just 5:25 remaining in regulation, the Beverly Hills Detroit Country Day football team picked up a 20-13 victory against Milan High in a Division 4 regional final on Nov. 14 and earned this week’s Team of the Week honor. Country Day, which had outscored its opponents 78-7 in the district round, advanced to the state semifinals for the second year in a row. The Yellowjackets (11-1) face Flint Powers Catholic (10-2) at 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at West Bloomfield High.
