Ford II wrestling falls in regional semis

Utica Ford II wrestler Tevin Machart is one of four Falcons grapplers to qualify for the individual regional tournament, which took place after press time. Machart, pictured during a Feb. 8 individual district, earned All-State honors last season wrestling at 135 pounds.

The Utica Ford II wrestling team saw the team portion of its season come to a close in a 41-26 loss to Clarkston in a Division 1 regional semifinal match Feb. 12 at Rochester High.

Clarkston fell 45-16 to Oxford High in the regional final.

Four Falcons wrestlers qualified for the D-1 individual regionals after battling it out at a district tournament Feb. 8. Regionals took place after press time. The top four wrestlers in each weight class advance in the individual tournament.

Sterling Heights Stevenson also had four wrestlers qualify for regionals.

The individual state finals take place Feb. 27-March 1 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Listed are the wrestlers from the Sentry coverage area who qualified for individual regionals. Check next week’s edition for an update on the wrestlers.

Romeo Bulldogs

Romeo remained undefeated by defeating Macomb Dakota 26-14 in a Macomb Area Conference crossover that paired two of the top-ranked teams in Michigan. Romeo’s defense came into the game having surrendered just 13 points all season, and helped seal the win with a safety and interception return for touchdown by Brad Tanner in the fourth quarter. Romeo earned its first win against Dakota since 2010.
