Foley baseball team swings past Lathrup in early season meeting
MADISON HEIGHTS — In a meeting of a veteran team with state-title aspirations, and a youthful team taking some time to figure itself out, the Madison Heights Bishop Foley baseball team flexed some early season muscle and cruised past Lathrup Village Southfield-Lathrup 16-0 Wednesday afternoon at home.
“We’re trying to get everything going and get things organized the way we want,” Foley coach Buster Sunde said. “I thought the guys did a real nice job of that today.”
“Way too many walks and way too many errors,” Lathrup coach Darren Mosley said. “Then again, we just lost to a pretty good baseball team.”
Foley, the two-time defending Division 3 champs, jumped on the Chargers with seven runs in the first inning, three more in the third and then ended the game with six in the fifth.
Nate Grys finished the day with two hits, while Mike Murley had two hits, including a double, and three RBI.
Garrett Schilling earned the victory, pitching three innings while allowing just a single hit and striking out five.
“When you walk 12 batters and commit seven or eight errors, you’re not going to win too many games,” Mosley added.
Lathrup falls to 1-2 with the loss.
Foley improves to 4-0 on the young season.
